James II oak chest of drawers in two parts
Dimensions
97cm high x 90cm wide x 56cm deep
Condition
There are light marks, knocks and scratches commensurate with age and use. There are small timber section repairs on the sides and a loss to the moulding on the left hand side of the front moulding between the two sections. There are occasional woodworm holes and the handles are old replacements. The chest has probably been subject to restoration in the mid 20th century, including replacement of the drawer runners and some strengthening work to the top and carcass. There is slight play in all joints giving the piece a little rocking movement, but this is unlikely to be of significance if the chest is used respectfully. The drawers run smoothly and the piece has a good colour.
Time period
